It’s my first post on my book blog. Here’s the wrap-up of the books I read in April. I had a weak reading month in April, partly due to being so busy, which influenced my book choices. I tried out new authors and, unfortunately, ended up with some duds. Let’s get down to business. Here are the books I read in April:
Funny Girl by Nick Hornby 2.5⭐ It almost put me in a slump. The story didn’t move me, and I wasn’t attached to any characters. It was all vibes, no plot. The problem is I didn’t care about the characters.
Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty 2.5 ⭐ – I felt nothing happened. There was an interesting family dynamic, which played no part in the book’s outcome. When I found out what happened, I was disappointed that I had invested time into reading this for that ending.
All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata 4 ⭐ – I need a slow-burn romance to bring me back to life. Even though they kept referring to the male MC as silver and he was 42 years old. Things that make you go, hmm.
The Score by Elle Kennedy 3 ⭐ – Just a basic romance book, but I’m a sucker for a hockey romance. This is the third book in the series, and I like the bones of the book. The female MC wasn’t my favorite or the most interesting, but I could relate to her needing to move on from a past relationship to break the cycle.
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice by Elle Cosimano 3 ⭐ I love Finlay Donovan for cozy mysteries, but I didn’t love this book. Maybe the series has run its course, but I didn’t find it as enjoyable. The fourth book picked up immediately from the third book, and I spent the first few chapters trying to remember what happened in the last book. This book seemed like a natural ending to the series; if it is the end, I am satisfied.
Betting on You by Lynn Painter 3.5 ⭐ I love a wholesome YA romance, and Lynn Painter can write them. The connection between the two MCs was fun and innocent. The third-act conflict kind of frustrated me, but it’s realistic. I don’t like the miscommunication troupe, and this book is filled with it.
The Mr. Series by T.L. Swan 4⭐ Mr. Master’s has series issues, but I didn’t connect to the characters. I liked Mr. Spencer, but he was a bit controlling to a woman who was supposed to be finding herself. Mr. Garcia was probably the most f’ed-up of them all, but his character hooked me from the first book.
What Alice Forget by Liane Moriarty 2.5 ⭐ I think her style isn’t for me. Once again, I felt like nothing happened when I finished the book. What did Alice Forget? She forgot the little things and decided to move on with her life.
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins 5⭐ This was a re-read for me, so I won’t change my rating. This is what sparked my love for YA romance back in 2011. I can only say it’s an innocent love story at a formative time in life. The moments are sweet, raw, and honest despite the miscommunication throughout the book.
Let me know if you’ve read any of these books or have suggestions based on these books.
